Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 3, 2026

Guarded is made by Vexal, LLC. This policy explains, in plain language, what Guarded stores, what it never stores, and the control you have over your data. Our goal is reorientation, not surveillance — so we collect as little as we can while still letting your progress follow you wherever you read.

Guarded requires an account. You can sign in with Apple or with an email address. Your account lets us back your data up to the cloud — we use Supabase as our hosting and database provider — so that your reading progress stays in sync across the devices where you use Guarded.

What we store in your account

We keep the small amount of data needed to remember where you are in Scripture and to sync it across your devices:

  • Your reading progress and your daily completions — when you close the Word Ring.
  • Your reading plans, including any custom plans you build.
  • The duration of your reading sessions (how long you spent reading, not what you read).
  • Basic profile details and preferences — for example, your sign-in identifier and settings such as your theme.
  • Your private reflections. Kept in your own account and protected by per-user row-level security so a journal entry follows you to a new device. They are yours alone — we never read them.

All of this is tied to your account and protected by per-user row-level security. In practice this means you can only ever access your own data, and no other user can reach it.

What we never collect or store

Some things are intentionally kept out of our reach. We never collect or store:

  • The names of the apps you choose to guard. On iOS these are held as opaque Screen Time tokens that stay on your device, never leave it, and that we cannot read. We do not know which apps you have chosen to shield.
  • The scripture text you read. We track that a reading was completed and how long it took — not the passage content itself.

Guarded cannot see your messages, your photos, your browsing, or anything you do inside other apps. It has no window into that, by design.

iOS Screen Time & Family Controls

On iOS, Guarded uses Apple’s Screen Time and Family Controls permission for one purpose only: to shield the specific apps you pick, and to show you a gentle reminder when you open one of them before your reading is done.

Nothing about your usage content is read or transmitted. The apps you select are represented to Guarded as opaque tokens that remain on your device — we cannot see their names, and we cannot see what you do inside them.

Analytics

Any analytics Guarded keeps are anonymous and stored on your device only. They are never sent over the network, and they are never tied to scripture, to your reflections, or to the names of the apps you guard.

What we keep are simple bucketed counts and durations — for example, how often the app is opened or how long a typical session lasts — used only to understand and improve how Guarded works on your own device.

Your controls

Your data is yours. From within Settings, at any time, you can:

  • Export your data.
  • Delete your data.
  • Delete your account entirely, which removes your data from our cloud.

Security

Your data is encrypted in transit between your device and our servers. In the cloud, per-user row-level security keeps each person’s data isolated to their own account. Account authentication is handled through Sign in with Apple and through Supabase.

Children & general audience

Guarded is a general-audience app. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will post the revised version here and update the date above. Continued use of Guarded after a change means you accept the updated policy.
